Credit Ratings

Introduction

We are a global leader in credit ratings and credit risk analysis, with ratings on approximately US$ 32 trillion of debt issued in 100+ countries, including over 100 ratings in the six countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. We analyze issuers and debt obligations of corporations, local government entities, financial institutions, insurance companies and sovereign governments. We also provide ratings of Structured Finance transactions and Sukuk.

Standard & Poor’s provides the market with a wide range of ratings products, such as its credit ratings for issuers of debt, as well as individual debt issues. A credit rating is Standard & Poor’s opinion of the general creditworthiness of an issuer, or the creditworthiness of a particular debt issue (e.g. public bond) or other financial obligation, based on relevant risk factors. The credit rating does not constitute a recommendation to purchase, sell or hold a particular security. In addition, a rating does not comment on the suitability of an investment for a particular investor.

A Standard & Poor's rating is based on principles of independence, integrity and objectivity – the same standards that underlie market confidence worldwide.
